They really reminded us of what the Japanese have known for years: animation is a medium, not a genre. There were mature, intelligent themes in this movie, and a very not-politically-correct message at its core: don't celebrate mediocrity. Trying to pretend everyone is always special just makes no one special. Also: bad guys will hurt children; they will not show restraint.
It had some truly great moments, both humorous and serious ones. Of course, it had great CG animation. I want to see it again in the theatres, and we're planning on owning a copy. :)
