It's called 'The Onion' because it makes your eyes water...

Last week The Onion had an article on how ABC is purposely ordering dumbed down TV shows for the new Fall line-up, in an attempt to make their network more accessible to the viewing public. Included in the new line-up: Naked Ladies, Extreme Explosions, and America's Shiniest Objects.

Man, oh man.

I've just read the Wiki article, as part of my usual bored Wikibrowsing, on Ray Kurzweil's The Age of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence. The article alone was a fascinating read about his theories on the acceleration of computer processing power vs. the comparative stagnation of human processes, and how the former will someday be used to augment the latter. At the end of the article, it mentions a musician who became a fan of Kurzweil after reading the book, which he was initially only attracted to in the bookstore "because of the shininess of the cover." Just that juxtaposition of a tome regarding the ascendancy of digital thought being attractive to humans because OMG ITZ SHINY was so funny to me. :-)

Yes. Sad and simplistic, but true. :)
