cool little techie joy

I use the Firefox browser and I just discovered that you can add search engine plugins to that little search box in the top right corner. It's a convient little box, because you choose the search engine you want from the list available, type in your query, and you zip off to your search results. You don't have to go to the search engines' webpages* to enter the query.

There are tons of search engine plugins available! You can find them here, or you can just click on the "Add Engines..." menu item at the bottom of the list of available search engines.

I have plugins for:
  • Google
  • eBay
  • Wikipedia
  • IMDb
  • Dictionary.com
  • Amazon.com
  • Biblegateway.com (verse and phrase searches)
  • TV.com
  • Snopes.com
  • TinyURL.com
This is also a cool little extension that will give you a popup context menu that allows you to easily remove search engine plugins that you don't want in your list. (Thanks jcobleigh!)

Cool! :)

* Can I just note how much I appreciate Google's front page? It's so...NOT BUSY. Just the company logo, the search box, and a couple of links and buttons. That's it. No unnecessary clutter. It really conveys a sense that the company prioritizes good search capabilities over everything else. :)
